Saluting the Marine Corps Who Keep Our Country Safe
“A Marine is a Marine. I set that policy two weeks ago – there’s no such thing as a former Marine. You’re a Marine, just in a different uniform and you’re in a different phase of your life. But you’ll always be a Marine because you went to Parris Island, San Diego or the hills of Quantico. There’s no such thing as a former Marine.”
–General James F. Amos, 35th Commandant of the U.S. Marine Corps
On November 10th, Marine Corps Day, Arwood Waste extends a special thank you to the men and women of the United States Marine Corps who are diligently protecting us and maintaining our freedom by air, land and sea. We appreciate all that you and your families sacrifice to keep us safe.
Watch the 240th Marine Corps Birthday Message
If you have served in the Marines or are currently serving, we thank you. If you know someone who serves in the United States Marine Corps or whenever you see a Marine, be sure to show your appreciation. Semper Fi!

Recycle Your Pumpkin with Arwood Waste
Recycle Your Pumpkin This Halloween
Ever wonder what to do with that jack-o’-lantern after Halloween? Before it turns into a mushy mess on your front porch be sure to properly throw it away or place it in your compost bin. To properly dispose of pumpkins, first remove any non-organic materials such as candles, glow sticks and non-biodegradable decorations before placing them in a waste can or compost bin.
Composting pumpkins on your own?
After Halloween let your pumpkin enrich your soil! If you don’t have a compost pile, just bury the pumpkin in an empty garden space. It will quickly decompose and add organic matter and nutrients to your soil.
Tips & Tricks for an Environmentally Friendly Halloween
• Hold a costume-exchange party: Halloween costumes are often worn only once. By holding a costume-exchange party with friends, last year’s outfit can get another wear and you can get something new – without any waste.
• Create your own spooky decorations: Save money by making your own decorations from repurposed materials. Creating your own hair-raising decorations will put less stress on your wallet, the planet and allow you to showcase your originality for trick-or-treaters to admire.
• Trick or treat with recyclable bags: Canvas, cloth or other reusable bags are an earth-friendly and more affordable alternative to plastic jack-o’-lantern buckets. Or, decorate recyclable bags or old pillowcases with spooky scenes to create a custom carryall to take home the goodies.
• Leave only footprints after trick-or-treating: Dispose of candy wrappers, a big source of litter on the streets during Halloween, and carry an extra bag for litter.

Climate Fee Notice: Old Man Winter is on his way
It’s True! Old Man Winter will be on the move…just ask any Arwood Waste team member in the North
For much of the country the Winter months also bring a few changes to how portable toilets and portable sanitation units are serviced to keep them functioning properly in the colder temperatures. Not much is worse than the surprise of a solid chunk of frozen waste when you need to use your portable toilet.
To prevent this experience, we may need to provide an additional climatization service to your unit during the months of November through March. If this is required you may notice a small additional Climate Fee on your bill during the affected months.
Arwood Waste and our partners are committed to providing you excellent service all year long! If you have any questions about the Climate Fee or if we can serve you any way, call us at (800) 477-0854.
Arwood Waste and our partners thank you for trusting us with your Roll Off Dumpster Rental, Portable Toilet Rental, Commercial Dumpster Rental, and Storage Rental needs all year long.

Breast Cancer Awareness – The Waste Industry Goes Pink
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month…Kudos to the Waste Management Industry for spreading the word
According to the American Cancer Society, in 2013 approximately 39,620 women were expected to die from Breast Cancer. Treatment for this terrible disease is most effective when discovered early through regular screenings which makes public reminders to schedule screenings so important.
“While most people are aware of breast cancer, many forget to take the steps to have a plan to detect the disease in its early stages and encourage others to do the same,” according to the National Breast Cancer Foundation. This truth applies to both genders so men need to be checked for breast cancer too.
We want to highlight a few of the many waste service providers who are raising awareness about breast cancer and helping fund research for a cure this month and all year long.
Republic Services – Pink Ribbons
Cascade Cart Solutions – The Pink Cart
The Pink Carts are available to solid waste and recycling companies across North America with $5 of every purchase going to breast cancer awareness and research in both the United States and Canada.
City of Miami, Oklahoma – Bright Pink Garbage Trucks
The City of Miami, Oklahoma has added a bright pink truck with the signature pink ribbon to it’s fleet to raise awareness about breast cancer in their local community.
WCA – Pink Trucks and “Pink Shirt Fridays” year round
Not only has WCA painted a variety of their trucks, roll-off containers, and commercial dumpsters pink, but they have also initiated an ongoing program called “Pink Shirt Fridays” where they donate $4 to breast cancer research at MD Anderson for each employee who wears a pink shirt to work on the last Friday of every month.
Beach Waste Services – Panama City, FL
Their pink trucks, pink 96 gallon carts, and pink ribbons show this company’s support for the American Cancer Society and Komen for the Cure.
Arwood Waste and Partners Nationwide
Everyone has an important part to play in battling breast cancer from funding research, to reminding those we love to get screened, to scheduling our own appointments to get checked.
We want to thank all of the many commercial and municipal waste service providers for their support and fundraising efforts to find a cure for breast cancer.
National Garbage Man Day and our friends in the waste management industry care about you so make your plan today, tell your friends, and GET SCREENED!
